Argentina Prepares Legal Battles, Protects Against Charges, Designations

Argentina's return home after the defeat at the 2026 World Cup final in Spain was not accompanied only by sports disappointment.

The Argentina Football Federation (AFA) is preparing to launch a legal battle to counter charges and the dezinform campaign that, according to it, has accompanied the national team throughout the tournament.

According to the Argentinan media, AFA leaders are determined to defend the reputation of the federation and the representative, taking legal steps against those who have spread false information or unfounded accusations, Periscope conveys.

During the World, Argentina became involved in a series of controversys, ranging from referral decisions, field debates and criticism of the behaviour of some players, to claims that the team had a highly aggressive style of play, especially in the finals towards Spain.

At the same time, numerous conspiracy theories spread to social networks and media.

One part claimed FIFA had favoured Argentina during the tournament, while others insisted that champions in effect were damaged by referral decisions and subject to unfair treatment.

These narrativas, according to AFA, have created a harmful climate around the nationals.

Despite losing in the finals, Lionel Scalon and footballers were welcomed by many fans with gratitude for the journey made until the crucial match.

However, the federation is already intent on defending its name and image through legal ways, rejecting any charge it considers false or disinformive.
