Nothing stops Albania towards the EU”, Rama interview for Italpress: The German turned from a local issue, to global war against Trump

From Albania's trip to membership in the EU to the agreement for immigrants with Italy, as well as internal controversy for a project rejected by “The Revolution of flamingo”, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed key political issues related to Tirana and its relations with Europe in an exclusive interview for journalist Anna La Rosa of the Italpress news agency.
As for Albania's European journey, Rama described the process as irreversible during the interview.
“Sic said Winston Churchill, should never be missed a good crisis. I believe there are things to learn, to reflect, but meanwhile no one can stop Albania's process towards the European Union”, the prime minister said.
Rama also returned to the Italian-Albania immigrant agreement, which has been at the centre of fierce political debate in recent months.
There was a lot of noise about something that, after all, was nothing but a trust-made attempt, an attempt to find direction and solutions. The fact that this has been accepted today is not a victory, but another example of lost time in battles that are often not even real battles but futile clashes in the public arena”, Rama stressed.
The missing “before reaching a common position is the real problem we need to address”, he adds.
The prime minister also stopped from protesting the “Falmingo” revolution, which opposes the project in Zvrinec.
He dismissed the accusations and said they are damaging the country's image.
For years I've been accused of anything possible. I don't know if there's anything left that hasn't been attributed to me yet, he said, adding that this “situation causes me deep pain because at this point it's not just about me, but about Albania”.
According to him, “around this issue has been built a narrator without grounds”.
“How can you answer? We have reached the point where a fundamental principle appears to have been overturned: It must be those who make accusations to prove, not the accused who must constantly prove his innocence. This so-called “Flatmingo Revolution” initially looked almost like a movie scenario. Today it seems to me that the protest has taken other directions and has shifted to other questions”, the prime minister said.
If they accuse me of handing these lands over to someone or that I have damaged a beautiful part of the Albanian coast, then let them bring evidence. So far, no evidence has been presented. Nobody, until today, has proven anything. There is no evidence because the process is still under way”, Rama points out.
The prime minister also said that “we still have not signed any agreements because negotiations have not ended. ”
In terms of further development, on a private land, he stressed that <x0 state and government have no connection with it. There is still no building permit and the procedure is continuing”.
“We have reached a paradoxic situation”, Rama said, and added, however, that he understood the reasons for those who were in protest, but criticised the way the issue was brought to the international arena.
By saying that, I fully understand those who went out to protest. I said it publicly: if I were among them and would listen to everything that was said, maybe I would feel the same anger and indignation. But if then I could hear the other side, in this case the government, saying to me: Come on, I'll tell you there's nothing they've told you, there's no evidence, I'd feel relaxed and I'd come home”, the prime minister stressed.
Unfortunately, today the issue has gone beyond, and people are not even talking about flamingos. Flagingos have become a useful symbol for those who want to take this story to the international scene. If at the local level it is about an issue involving various groups of society, including the opposition, at the international level it turns into a battle against Donald Trump”, Rama concluded.
