Rama for Al Jazeera: Project in Zrvenec to be realised despite objections

Protests held in Albania last week and the planned project in Zvrinec have attracted international media attention, while Prime Minister Edi Rama has continued to publicly defend the initiative that has triggered widespread debate.
In an interview for Al Jazeera, the head of government stated that the project, which amounts to billions of dollars, will be realised despite controversy and speculation that circulate. According to him, investment represents an important economic development opportunity for the country.
Rama dismissed accusations that the government is either selling or passing public property to private investors, stressing that it is a deal between private parties.
The project that has caused all this reaction and controversy worldwide is private property. It is not public land that the Albanian government is providing by selling the country. It's private property. It is an expression of interest based on a private agreement between private parties, in which the Albanian government has no role at all”, the prime minister from his office said.
The government leader's statements come at a moment when the project in Zrvenec continues to be at the centre of public debate, prompting reactions from various activists, residents and organisations in and abroad. /euronews/
