Deschamps temporarily leaves France's direction at World Cup

France's selector, Didier Deschamps, will temporarily leave the national camp at the 2026 World Cup after his mother's death.
The French technician will return to France to attend the mortore ceremony and, as a result, will not be on the bench in the latest group phase match against Norway, played Friday in Boston.
The news was confirmed by the French Football Federation (FFF), which revealed that Deschamps received painful news of his mother's life. The event comes just a day after France's 3-0 convincing victory over Iraq in Philadelphia.
Guy Stéphan will lead the team
In agreement with FFF President Philip Diallo, Deschamps has temporarily delegated the team to his long-term assistant Guy Stephan.
“Didier Deschamps will not be able to run training sessions before the Norway-French match and will not be present on the bench during Friday's” meeting, the French Federation's official communique said.
Deschamps' temporary departure comes at a positive moment for France to the World Cup. “Blute” has won the group's first two matches, against Senegal (3-1) and Iraq (3-0), securing a favourable position for the qualification, Telegrafi reports, broadcast Periscope
Another personal blow to the French coach
For the 57-year-old coach, this is another serious personal loss. In May 2022, during a French national gathering, he lost his father.
The French Football Federation urged the media and the public to respect the Deschamps family's privacy in this difficult period.
At this extremely painful moment, we ask everyone to show respect, restraint and maximum diskretion”, the FFF statement says. /Periscope
