Kallas: EU is preparing 21st sanctions package against Russia proposed visa ban on Russian military

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, at the same time European Commission Vice President Kaya Kallas, has announced that the EU is preparing the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, with the aim of further hitting the war-funded economy in Ukraine.
In a series of posts on the social network X, Kallas said the European Union is continuing to strengthen pressure on Moscow.
“Tulle after brick are dismantling the foundations of Russia's war economy. Today we are presenting proposals for the 21st package of sanctions against Russia”, she said.
According to Kallas, the new package includes the provisional freeze of the maximum Russian oil price, as well as the setting on the list of sanctions of institutions Russia uses to secure revenues and to bypass EU restrictive measures.
She made it known that sanctions would be aimed at banks, arms producers, oil traders, refinerys and Kryptonal operators in third countries helping Russia finance the fight against Ukraine.
Kallas stressed that under this package the largest group of appointments to the list of sanctions has been proposed in more than two years, with over 170 new proposals, especially in the financial sector.
“We are removing the tools to finance the fight”, she said.
Under the proposed plan, the EU aims to hit the Russian financial system severely through asset freezes of nearly 90 banks, as well as additional transaction bans on more than 30 banks in Russia and other countries.
Kallas also stressed that revenues from energy continue to fuel Russian military machinery. For this reason, the EU plans new measures involving additional restrictions on Russian oil trade and new bans related to resuscitation of liquid natural gas tanks (LNG) in Russia.
An important part of the new package is also linked to companies supporting the Russian military-industritial complex. According to Kallas, more than 30 factors linked to the production of fears will be included in the list of sanctions, while new export control measures will be implemented against 50 companies, including headquarters companies in China and Turkey.
Finally, the chief of European diplomacy also warned new measures against persons linked to the Russian armed forces.
Europe's “Hands should not be open to former Russian fighters and fighters. We will propose a complete ban on visa issuing for former members and current members of the Russian armed forces, as well as for groups operating on their behalf”, Kallas said.
