Italy trembles at 6.2 degree earthquake

A 6.2 quake struck south of Italy in the early hours of Tuesday morning, causing concern among the inhabitants of the area, who woke up from the earth's severe quakes.
According to preliminary data, the quake recorded at 00:12 local time, about 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Saracena, in the Kalabria region. The Epicentre was located about 20 miles [32 km] from the city of Kozèza.
Seismic swing occurred at a depth of more than 250 miles [250 km] below the surface of the earth and was initially appreciated with intensity IV in the modified St. Mercalli Intensity St.
This level of intensity is considered easy, but strong enough to be felt by many inside the buildings and to wake up people who were asleep. During the quake, vessels, windows, and doors may have moved, while in some cases there have been reported ringing sounds from the walls. Even parked vehicles may have been easily shaken.
So far, Italian authorities have not reported material damage or hurt persons as a result of the earthquake.
Meanwhile, experts and responsible institutions continue monitoring the area to register any further seismic activity and assess the situation on the ground.
