Who's Nash Best? Killed in exchange for fire with Secret Service near the White House

The man who opened fire near the White House on Saturday evening before being killed in a shootout with the Secret Service has been identified as the 21-year-old Nash Best, according to a law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press.
The investigators said Best approached the agents in the 17th and Avenue Pennsylvania area in northwest shortly after 6 p.m. He pulled a gun out of his bag and started shooting. The officers responded to the fire, hitting Best. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
A passerby was also hit in the exchange of gunfire and is said to be in critical condition.
The court's data shows that the 21-year-old had been arrested in July 2025 after trying to enter another checkpoint at the White House. During that meeting, investigators said that Best claimed to be Jesus Christ and said he wanted to be arrested.
An initial hearing session was held and a pre-trial"was issued to stay away from", usually a move ordering a defendant not to approach a person or area before a trial. A court order was issued in August following a statement for"disrespect"against Best, which was submitted for a later hearing session.
This was not the only case Best was seen near the White House, according to a report by CNN. The data shows that Best was"known for the Secret Service"for"ecret around the White House complex by trying to access various entry points", the report says. He was arrested on June 26th 2025, for"preventing vehicle entry"in a part of the White House complex, data show.
CNN found in the social media belonging to Best, which seemed to threaten President Donald Trump violently and another post he wrote: "I am actually the son of God".
Trump was inside the White House at the time of the shooting.
