Kos: We have a year scheduled for Kosovo membership, but the more successful in reform and dialogue, the bigger prospects

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos was asked today in Pristina when Kosovo can join the European Union as it has been mentioned in neighbouring states for membership for years.
Kos said he could not give a specific date, but cited Kosovo's duties that must be carried out to achieve real negotiations with the EU. Here she cited reforms and success in dialogue with Serbia.
There is certainly room for Kosovo in the European Union and the membership process. Usually we don't work on dates, but depending on progress and the most successful way possible, we will be able to start negotiations, real negotiations. The more successful Kosovo will be in implementing reforms, the more successful it will be in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the greater are the chances of starting negotiations. Real negotiations. So this is the political part”.
Beyond the political aspect, Kos said it is also important to make commitments with member states.
“As you know, the membership process has two parts: one is technical negotiations, while the other concerns political dynamics in member states. And my call for action on any candidate country is to engage even with member states, and then that can happen. Therefore, I cannot give you a certain year, but I am 100% sure and will work hard towards the goal of drawing Kosovo closer to the European Union”, she said. /Periscope
