Carafano suggests recognition before targets for NATO and the EU: US to ask Greece, Romania of Cyprus to recognise Kosovo

Carafano has expressed scepticism over the process of expanding NATO and the EU, suggesting that Kosovo deal more with recognitions.
He has said he suggests to the US, to seek, especially from Greece, Romania and Cyprus, as allies, to recognise Kosovo's independence.
If I'm honest, I don't think we're in a period where we will see much NATO enlargement. And, frankly, I don't think we're in a period where there will be much expansion of the European Union. Many people talk about Albania and Macedonia joining NATO. This can happen, because the EU wants to create the impression that it is expanding and growing, but I'm not sure that this is real”, he declared.
So I think what Kosovars have to do is, and you have to understand this: Heritage Foundation, which is think tank where I work, when I was vice president, we were the first think tank in America to embrace and support the creation of an army for Kosovo. We were the first to promote the idea of Kosovo membership in NATO, but the world is different from that time. First, NATO is primarily designed to do one thing: to prevent. Kosovo is relatively away from front lines. In terms of strengthening security in the region, NATO may not be the best frame for this. It is not designed to deal with conflicts within the region, but to face immediate threats of”, Carafano has added further to T7, broadcast Periscope.
I don't know if the EU will ever expand. I don't know if the EU will ever be reformed. I don't know if the EU will offer regulatory policies that actually encourage countries to grow. So I think there are many possibilities for Kosovo to develop within the context of being literally between the European Union and NATO. I'm not sure whether membership is actually possible, but I'm not even sure it's as relevant and important as it was 10 years ago. What is far more important, I think, is the recognition of Kosovo by its European neighbours. And one thing I would suggest to the United States, if I were to be a teacher, I am not a part of the American government and I do not speak in its name, but especially the important allies of the United States, such as Romania, Greece and Cyprus, I think these are countries that should absolutely recognise Kosovo”, the potential Carafano. /Periscope
