“Sending KSF to Gaza, strategic step for Kosovo”

Sending the troops of the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) to Gaza represents a strategic step and evidence that Kosovo is turning from consumer to security provider, Kosovo Centre for Security Studies Executive Director Mentor Vrajolli said. Vrajolli in an interview for Online Economy, stressed that this commitment is also a form of return of contributions to international partners, particularly the United States of America.
“Yes, that means that Kosovo in some form is roasting as a society. Kosovo has managed to transform itself from a security consumer to a security provider, which I think should be highly valued. I think it's also a strategic step because we should reward all that the international community has made for Kosovo, especially the United States of America. So in this case, I think it's also a contribution to return for what the United States of America has done for us, and I think this should be done as soon as possible. It is also a good opportunity for Kosovo to be a contributor and a global construction peacemaker. As it is known in Gaza's belt, there has been an extremely difficult conflict, and I think that region deserves peace. We are hoping this initiative will bring about peace that has long been expected and that that that country, not the arena of conflicts”, he said.
He added that the KSF's concrete role in this mission will be determined later, but any contribution is considered important.
I think this will be determined in the meantime. I think it's too early to talk about this step. Whatever the KSF's contribution is, it will in some form be covering one of the chains needed to operate this mission there, and I believe that any contribution made in this direction is equivalent to donations, even those that are on the front line of exposure, even logistical ones. I think they are necessary even in whatever capacity the KSF is involved, I think it contributes to this mission and contributes to peace building there”, he said.
Vrajolli also spoke of the importance of supporting the United States of America in the process of Kosovo's NATO membership.
The United States is a key state for NATO membership. It was also seen in connection with Sweden's membership, especially when there was a blockade on the part of Turkey, and this blockade was overcome just through the intervention of the United States. Even in this case, in the issue of five non-recognitionants who do not know Kosovo, I think all of these four non-recognitions that are in NATO are lined up with the interests of Western states and I think that a pressure from a key state such as the United States of America, real pressure, not the pressure to somehow get to know Kosovo, he said.
He estimated that the KSF has made visible progress and is ready for international operations.
“KSF is making rapid development, hugely invested. It is a more accelerated investment in recent years than it has been before. This relates to the fact that earlier the KSF has not been transformed, while also threats have been changed. I think some of the limits that have been in the beginning in 2018 have been lifted for the fact that KSF has been deemed necessary to have protection capacities that exceed its defanza capacity. So I think KSF has developed well. In 2028, this is expected to be completed, the deadline that is meant for full consolidation of the KSF, but in many cases I think the KSF is probably ahead of time, as far as it comes to achieving these capacities. I think the KSF has been willing to be part of more complex operations, so I think it's willing to contribute”, he said.
The Kosovo government has approved the Defence Ministry's proposal for sending the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) troops to Gaza, paving the way for proceeding with the decision to approve in the Kosovo Assembly.
Under the legislation in force, after the executive decision, the issue passes on to lawmakers for review and vote, while eventually the approval of the country's president is also required.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during the Government meeting, said that “we are willing to participate and help Gaza's people because we ourselves have been and have been benefiting international forces since 1999”.
Defence Minister Ejup Macedonia stressed that through this commitment Kosovo aims to prove that it is a reliable and willing partner to act side-by-side allies in support of peace and security.
The decision to send troops was adopted without a vote against and no abstention.
Sending KSF troops forwards to take place under the International Stabilisation Force (FNS), a mechanism created as part of the so-called Peace Board initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump, for achieving world peace.
Kosovo is among the first five states along with Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Albania that have pledged commitment to the mission, aimed at providing security and monitoring the ceasefire at the Gaza Strip.
Yet, it is still not known when exactly the number and number of troops will occur. The defence ministry has announced earlier that the proposal on the case was forwarded to Government on March 3rd.
