Today, as your first term as Kosovo President is over, I find myself challenging, asking for words to be worthy of all that you have given to our country, to our world and naturally to our family. True, there is not enough writing. Yet, you deserve an effort. You always deserved it.
You didn't just hold the highest state post, the head of State. You filled it with full meaning. You radically transformed him. You've entered as leader and come out as inspiration. Any challenge that's been set before you, and it's been many, and you faced it, not with hesitation, but with that quiet, invincible fire that has always defined you. Any obstacle that was set up in your way by those who suspected you of success, who hoped to stop you, turned it into a step to success. You never bent. You never retired. You just went ahead because Kosovo needed you very much.
I've seen you, just like any other citizen while you were standing in the European Parliament folk, dominating that hall with your presence. We have seen all members of the European Parliament stand up with French applause for you, for Kosovo. We've seen you at the UN Security Council, on such a powerful scene, with women who had experienced horror, and you made the world stop and listen. In front of you, the one seeking to defeat you felt ashamed, small, and stripped of every excuse. Like every other time he's facing you. Because when you talk, people get close to listen. Always. In rooms filled with the most powerful figures in the world, in institutions that have heard the great voices of history, it was you who wanted to hear. They sought your presence, the clarity of your thought, your wisdom and your eloquentness, but your courage to say what others did not.
Girl, your name is not just a name anymore. It's a brand and a known inside of all continents. It's a wanted voice in the world's largest political scenes. It's a symbol that politicians, big conferences, and international summits are consciously searching for, because they know where you're talking about, the truth is. And that's not a small thing. It is something rare and extraordinary for a state and a small nation like Kosovo and Albanians.
You gave Kosovo a view that he never had before; dignified, sovereign and proud of himself. Loyal to friends and allies, but above all, steadfast in defending your country's interests. You showed the world to a Kosovo that can sit at each table, speak at every forum, challenge any narrotives, and stand with its head high among the larger and more powerful nations. You deepened alliances, above all with the United States and our precious partners, not only through the foreign policy that you led with dignity but through the strength of your character. People trusted you. They trusted your word, your integrity and steadfast vision of what Kosovo can and should be done.
But you never allowed power to become a purpose in itself. You never forgot why you were there at the head of State. You were always for the citizens. You were also for the marginalized. Forgotten. Communities left in the shadows at the ends of society. The vulnerable, those voices that are often overlooked. You were their president, completely, sincerely and unconditionally. And they knew. They felt it, just like the truth feels.
And for every young girl in Kosovo who saw you on those big scenes, on that high task, who for the first time dared to tell himself <x0... maybe I can, like Vjosa”, you can never fully understand how much you gave them: courage, confidence and the ability to dream further and beyond, to where everything once seemed impossible. You broke up the barrier, not by words, but by deeds; not by noise, but by devotion and self - sacrifice, day by day, year by year. You witnessed to every woman and girl in this country and beyond that there is no unattainable ambition, no table where they have no place, no dream so big as not to be followed. You didn't just open the doors, you fell walls and barriers. And this legacy of yours, quiet, deep and lasting, will live much longer than any mandate, any title or post you can hold.
And in our house, through all the summits and speeches, triumphs and challenges, history and news headlines, you remained the most wonderful and most devoted and loving wife to me and our two daughters. Between all that the state and the world wanted from you, you were always there for us present, warm, our. And this, above all, is the most precious gift that we will preserve forever.
Now, let me speak for a second as your husband. As the man who has had the honor, the great and extraordinary honor of standing by you in all this journey. Seeing your journey has been the greatest privilege of my life. To be on your side as you achieved things that few dare to imagine. To feel such pride every time you entered a hall, into a arena, and changed it. Every time you talk, people would listen so carefully. Every time world leaders asked you for forgiveness, every time they asked for your opinion, they were just influenced by your presence. I've felt that pride a thousand times and it's never faded. He just grew up.
I stood proudly while kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers, the most powerful men in the world, were intrigued to meet you, to know you, to listen to you. Not only as the world's newest age leader but as a woman phenomenon that made the sensation in international politics. I have seen you inspire others, even those who thought there was nothing more to be inspired. Over the past five years, I have observed thousands of people around the world who saw you not merely as politicians or president of a state, but as a phenomenon inspiring millions of girls and women. One name, an identity and a voice exceeding any state, regional and European borders, one representing something far greater than the position itself and the state it represented.
Therefore, you were not just the president of Kosovo. You are living evidence of what a man endowed with conviction, compassion, and courage can accomplish. Therefore, you were and still remain Kosovo's gift to the world and the world has accepted this gift with open arms.
Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for your splendor. Thank you for your compassion, for your humanity, and your refusal to give anything less than yourself... to the citizens, to your country, to your nation.
Thank you for telling our girls what a woman can achieve.
Thank you for showing Kosovo what can be done and how it can be transformed. Thank you for showing the world that even small nations have great hearts, strong voices, and steadfast dignity.
So this is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter on your public journey over 20 years old. It's only the entry into your political heritage and the beginning of the greatest chapter that you will write for citizens in the years to come.
Always with you, in challenge and victory, in each step of this noble journey. /Periscope
