LDK chief Lumir Abdixhiku has remembered the Meja massacre, saying he spent the morning among the victims' family, who still carry the weight of one of the worst massacres in Europe.
He through a Facebook post has recalled that 27 years ago, 376 Albanian civilians, including children, were detained and forcibly separated from their families, later killed by Serbia's police and military forces.
I spent the morning in Meya, among the family that still carry the weight of one of the darkest massacres the European continent remembers. Twenty-seven years ago, 376 Albanian civilians, including children, stopped and were forcibly separated from their loved ones. They were murdered peacefully by Serbia's police and military forces. Crime didn't end there. The Serbian state organised its cover. The bodies were transported 280 miles [280 km] away to Batajnica, and buried in mass graves”, Obadiah wrote.
He stressed that the family pain remains alive after so many years, adding that this day is not only a reminder but a responsibility not to forget the past and seek justice.
Today, among these families, you realize that time does not close everything. There's some pain left, quiet in sight, but unchanged in essence. However, man is stronger than stone. This day is not just a memory. It's self-picture. With what we've been through and what we can't forget. Kosovo's freedom is expensive. That's why he demands responsibility. In this responsibility, Kosovo should seek justice for its own people and a story that is not allowed to be forgotten. May the glory of God help the families. ”, Abdixhiku said.
