The news made yesterday known, Albania's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, stressing that this system, which has started to apply in part since October 2025, will apply to all citizens travelling for short term stays, up to 90 days within a 180-day period, in the Schengen area.
Citizens must consider the following:
At first entry after April 10, 2026, the border point will be registered:
) passport data;
Face picture;
Fingerprints.
The refusal to provide biometric data brings the refusal to enter Schengen territory.
In the initial phase of implementation, there may be delays at airports, ports and land crossings; for this reason, citizens are advised to appear earlier for travel.
The passport should be valuable and in good physical condition.
No preliminary application required for printing EES; registration is conducted at the time of border crossing.
The system does not change the existing rule of attitude: the maximum 90 days in any 180-day period.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens be informed in advance of new procedures and plan their trips, considering the additional time needed for border controls.
