The new round of ceasefire talks between Israel and Lebanon will take place on Thursday (April 23rd) in Washington, reportsReuters.
Israeli and Lebanese officials will hold talks in Washington on Thursday, an Israeli source for Reuters said on Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirming the first such contact since a 10-day ceasefire went into effect last week.
Israel will be represented by its ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Letter, the source said.
The planned talks come as American officials push ahead with an extension of the ceasefire. Lebanese Parliament Speaker Namir Barry told the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Washington was pushing ahead, but he declined to say if he supported opening direct negotiations with Israel, an opportunity Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is reportedly looking into.
Television Network Lebanon's TV reported that the time of Aoun's visit to Washington will depend on developments in the coming days and if a weekend ceasefire extension is reached.
According to the same report, the Lebanese side insists that President Aoun's meeting with US President Donald Trump be held bilaterally, without Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah's participation.
Separately, Lebanese Energy Minister Joe Sad said that the map published by Israeli Armed Forces (IDF), which shows an advanced sea defense “ “area, which extends from Lebanon's coast, does not affect the agreement of maritime demitation signed between Israel and Lebanon in 2022.
From a legal perspective, this map doesn't change anything about the fact that there is an agreement for marine demitation”, Sad toldReuters. “simply, the deal is in effect and nothing changes”. /Panorama
