President Donald Trump confirmed social media rescue Sunday morning after the US Army “conducted one of the most bold rescue-search operations” in its history. The officer is “this morning's and SOCIETY!” he added, though in a later posts Trump said it was “pagured heavily”.
Two crew members were aboard the plane, and both were taken out of the plane. One of them was already rescued by American forces, BBC reported, broadcast Express.
Iranian officials said the fighter plane was crashed by their air defence system.
Details about the rescue operation and how it developed are still emerging. Here's what we know so far.
How was the officer saved?
The US and Iran were in a race to find missing crew member after the plane crashed over southern Iran.
The precise circumstances of American rescue remain unclear, but a person familiar with the operation described it as a big “ ” quest for combat rescue in southern Iran.
Trump banned a number of other operations in Iran to concentrate on rescue, leading dozens of special operations forces in the effort, the BBC's US partner, CBS, reported.
This type of raid is rarely attempted because of the risk for humans and equipment. It just doesn't happen!
Saving crew members of a crashed plane is one of the most complex and time-sensitive operations known as the search-war rescue (CSAR) which the American Army and its allies prepare for.
Missions are often carried out by helicopters, which fly low over enemy territory, along with other military aircraft conducting attacks and patrolling the area.
In his post to the social media, Trump said that a pilot was behind enemy lines on Iran's unfaithful mountains, being chased by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer and closer to 11x1>.
Officials told American media that the crew member spent more than 24 hours alone hiding in the mountains with a pistol. He was reportedly hiding in a mountain hole and climbing a 2,000m-high ridge line.
The president added that the location of the pilot was monitored “24 hours a day” by officials planning the rescue operation.
After being rescued, he was flown to Kuwait to receive treatment for his injuries, CBS said, quoting American officials.
Media reports said the CIA played a crucial role in the rescue mission by tracking the pilot into a mountain breach and passing his exact location to the Pentagon.
The agency was involved in a fraud campaign within Iran, reports said. As rescue efforts were under way, she spread the word that the pilot had already been found and was being released.
Trump said the US Army sent dozens of planes to Iran and claimed the operation was conducted without being killed or injured by any American.
Iranian state media reported that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps troops (IRGC) fired an American threat seeking missing pilot.
Earlier, Iran had said it wanted to find the missing American alive and had offered a reward for citizens for help in finding them.
The crew of a plane crash is highly trained for such situations.
Their number one priority is to stay alive and avoid capture”, Jennifer Kavanagh, director of military analysis in the group of experts, told the BBC.
“They are trained to... try to leave the extraction site as soon as possible and hide in order to be safe. ”
They are also trained for survival techniques so that they can stay without food or water, or find resources from local terrain, as long as possible, Kavanagh said.
Where and when did the plane crash?
Iranian state media claimed for the first time Friday that the country's forces crashed an American plane over its southern region.
The exact location where F-15 was reportedly brought down was unconfirmed, but two potential provinces were mentioned in Iran's state media, Koegiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Khuzstan.
Two crew members were on board. The pilot was saved in an earlier operation. This operation reportedly included an A-10 Warthog aircraft that was hit over the Persian Gulf, with its pilot released before being rescued.
A helicopter carrying a pilot saved from an F-15E plane was hit by small arms fire, wounding crew members on board but landed safely, the American media reported.
Iran's joint military commander has attributed the new Iranian air defence systems to the collapse of two American fighter aircraft, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.
What do we know about the purpose of the plane?
F-15E was designed for air and air-air missions. In Iran, they were probably involved in protective roles to bring down fear and Iranian cruise missiles.
In its role of air-land attack, the aircraft is able to release precise ammunition run by laser and GPS, as well as other bombs.
The plane has two crew members: the pilot and a gun systems officer in the back seat. The gun officer, known as “Wizzo”, is responsible for selecting targets and making sure the weapons are programmed for the right attack.
We don't know what specifically knocked this American plane down, but if it's crashed by Iranians, the most likely reason is a ground-air rocket (SAM). /Periscope
