“There is almost no longer any target to attack”, said US President Donald Trump for the Axios news platform. The end of the war depends only on his will.
According to his statements, the US has bombed more than 5,000 targets in Iran. These include Revolution Guard command centres, air defence systems, missile launchers, Iranian nuclear programme sites, ships and military airports. The headquarters of political and religious leaders have also been attacked. Ayallah Ali Khamenei was killed in one of the attacks. Meanwhile, his son, Muhammad, has been appointed his successor.
But the targets pursued by the US government with its attacks have been reduced since the beginning of the war. While initially the focus was on changing the regime and the complete destruction of Iran's nuclear programme, the goal has recently been to stem Iran's military capabilities.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz dismissed hopes of a quick end to the war: “This operation will continue indefinitely, as long as necessary, until we have achieved all our goals and the battle has ended”, he said, according to his office, at a meeting with army commanders at the military headquarters in Telviv, the DW broadcast Periscope.
Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan called for an end to the war. It must be stopped before the entire region “is involved in flames”, he told Parliament. An end to the war is possible if diplomacy is given a chance. Turkey is in talks with all sides to achieve this.
According to its statements, the Israeli Army has launched new waves of attacks against Lebanese capital, Beirut, and against Iran. New incidents occurred in the Strait of Hormuz. Some commercial ships have been hit by shells in the straits. According to CNN, the Iranian Revolution Guard has begun placing mines in the area. But according to German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefhul, so far there is no evidence of that. However, Hormuz Strait is currently virtually blocked. This has an important impact on global energy supply. Like Erdogan, German Foreign Minister Wadelephul called for a diplomatic solution to the crisis. /Periscope/
