United States President Donald Trump said the attack on Iran was the last good “possible to prevent Tehran's nuclear weapons device.
Trump is holding statements from White House regarding the performance of the military operation against Iran, on the occasion of the ceremony to honour the three soldiers at the Medal of Honour.
In his address, the US president stressed that the operation will continue until Iranian nuclear danger is eliminated.
“It was our last good chance to hit them not to secure nuclear weapons”, Trump said, adding that if Iran possessed such weapons, it would be extremely difficult to stop.
He warned that a nuclear-powered Iran would also be able to hit targets in Europe.
According to the president, the operation is on the third day, after starting early Saturday with bombings in Tehran. During the initial attack, according to his statement, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei lost his life, along with several family members and dozens of senior officials.
Earlier Monday, Trump had not ruled out the possibility of sending even ground troops, if that were considered necessary. The situation in the region remains tense, while further development of events is expected.
