Muslim believers gathered outside the walls of Jerusalem's Old Town to mark the Great Bajram after being forbidden to enter the Al-Axa complex.
Israeli police fired tear gas as crowds looked for room to perform prayers, with many forced to pray on the nearby streets.
Authorities said restrictions were in force for security reasons following the outbreak of regional conflict on February 28th, reports Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.
The closure affects all major sacred sites in the Old Town, including the Al Aksa mosque, for the first time in decades during Bajrami.
