The European Union's envoy for the Kosovo dialogue, Peter Sorensen, has indicated that he has held a meeting at the American State Department during yesterday, where it is discussed conducting dialogue and future steps.
Through a report at “X”, Sorensen has indicated that he met with the Bureau's senior official at the State Department, Brendan Hanrahan, with whom they discussed the Kosovo dialogue, have reviewed recent achievements and secured harmonisation of actions for the next steps.
Excellent appointment with Bureau High Officer Brendan Hanrahan at the State Department. We discussed dialogue, considered the recent achievements and secured harmonisation in the steps before”, wrote Sorensen.
The Hanrahan Sorensen meeting follows the Kosovo government's decision on ease over the Law for Foreigners that entered into force from March 15th.
After Sorensen's meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Pristina last week, the Kosovo government decided to issue temporary permission for 12 months for members of the Serb community who do not have Kosovo documents and to acknowledge the IDs they are issued by Serbian organs, thus facilitating the impact of implementing the Law for Foreigners, Koha.net reports. These facilities were welcomed by Serbia, the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Foreign law affects members of the Serb community who do not have Kosovo documents, but live, work or study in Kosovo. For example, at the University of Northern Mitrovica which operates according to Serbia's system ? works or studies citizens of Serbia will have to have work permits or residence permits.
The laws for foreigners were designed for all persons who do not possess Kosovo documents to be equipped with residence permits, while vehicles with foreign license plates will not be able to circulate in Kosovo for more than three months, unless they have proper authorization. /Periscope/
