“We hope that the Iranian people will use this extraordinary option”, Hegseth said in statements during a press conference at the Pentagon on Monday. President Trump's “has been clear, now your time”.
“We previously saw many, many of the Iranian people seeking a change there”, he added later, referring to protests involving Iran earlier this year. “This is their moment to use”.
At the same press conference, Hegseth said: “this is not a so-called regime-changing war, but the regime certainly changed and the world is better for this”.
American and Israeli military operations have killed many members of Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatallah Ali Khamenein.
US President Donald Trump, in his first statements after the start of the American and Israeli operation, urged the Iranian people to take over “fate”.
America is supporting you with overwhelming force and destructive power”, Trump said on Saturday.
