An official NATO told RTV21 that KFOR continues to fulfil its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 to help preserve a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo, as well as freedom of movement, follows Periscope.
NATO emphasises that it continues to strongly support EU facilitated dialogue.
“Forca and KFOR's position are revised and regulated periodically, with the evolution of circumstances so that the mission remains suitable for its purpose. Currently, there are no significant changes in the review. KFOR continues to fulfil its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 to help preserve a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo, as well as freedom of movement. KFOR operates in close co-ordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union's Mission for Law Rule in Kosovo (EULEX), in their respective roles as security responders. KFOR's presence and daily activities throughout Kosovo create room for political dialogue. Stability in the region ultimately depends on all sides choosing diplomacy on violence. The road to lasting peace is political. NATO continues to strongly support EU facilitated dialogue as a framework for resolving unresolved issues, with respect for the rights of all communities, an official said I NATO for RTV21.
NATO added that the United States of America plays an essential role in supporting security throughout Kosovo and regional stability.
“The US continues to play an fundamental role in supporting stable security throughout Kosovo and regional stability, including within the NATO-led mission KFOR. The United States has almost 600 troops deployed in KFOR. They lead the East Regional Command mission at Camp Bondsteel. Regional East Command contributes to KFOR's daily activities in many different ways, including patrols, exercises, commitments with representatives of all local communities and support of reconstruction and economic development projects”, a NATO official said.
