France's President Emmanuel Macron has asked Iran to immediately stop attacks in the Middle East and ensure freedom of navigation by opening the Hormuz Strait for international maritime traffic.
This request came during a telephone conversation Macron conducted with Iranian President Massoud Peschian.
In a post on the social network X, Macro stressed that it is necessary for Iran to stop attacks on countries in the region immediately, also underlining the importance of ensuring free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes to global energy trade.
The French president also recalled that an absolute priority for France remains the security and repatriation of the French couple Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who have been imprisoned in Iran and currently located in the courtyard of the French Embassy, has broadcast Panorama.
Moreover, Macron expressed France's concern about Iran's nuclear and ballistic programmes, as well as about activities that, according to him, destabilise the Middle East region.
According to the French president, the two leaders agreed to maintain continued contact with developments in the region.
