Macedonian for Chinese missile purchases from Serbia: Exploiting hegemonelike tendencies towards neighbours

Kosovo Defence Minister Ejup Macedonia has told Radio Europe Free on Friday that claims by Serbian authorities that are arming themselves to protect themselves from neighbouring countries do not stand, and with the recent purchases of Chinese weapons they are disposing their hegemonistic tendencies in relation to these countries. Macedonia made [...]

Macedonia made those statements after Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, announced a day earlier that Serbia has bought Chinese missiles “devastating”.

It's about supersonic CM-400 missiles from China.

The “Bleries from Russia and China have been done for years and continue to become, so it does not relate to any current threat for Serbia ... No neighbouring state of Serbia in any case has shown any aggressive or offensive intent in reporting with Serbia”, has declared Macedonia, citing Serbia as displaying territorial claims on Kosovo.

In an interview for Serbia's Radio Television, Vucic has said Serbia has successfully integrated Chinese purchased missiles into Russian military aircraft MiG-29, which it owns.

“We have a considerable number of rockets and will have even more”, Vuciq said in an interview for Serbia's Radio Television.

The Serbian president did not show how much the missiles cost, but said those “are extremely expensive. We took them with a small discount”.

Minister Macedonia believes Serbia's purchases from China are the continuation of Vuciqi's policy.

Serbia's “Republic military acquisitions mainly succeed from non-member NATO countries. Mostly strategic purchases Serbia has implemented by the Russian Federation and China. From China, Serbia's Defence Ministry has produced anti-aircraft missile systems FK3, HQ-17 and HQ-9, as well as pilot-free and various radar”.

According to data from the International Institute for Peace Research (SIPRI) in Stockholm, in 2020,2024, Serbia has mostly imported weapons from China (57%), later from Russia (20%) and from France (7.4%).

Croatia's prime minister, Andrej Plenkovic, has reacted to this Serbia acquisition, who warned that on this issue he will discuss with the NATO alliance.

Responding to Plenkoviki's statement, Vuciq said that “Zagrebi will not decide what Serbia” will have.

He said Serbia “is preparing for the possibility of attack by the alliance being formed by Pristina, Tirana and Zagreb”.

In March 2025, Croatia, Albania and Kosovo signed a Declaration for Co-operation in the field of defence and security, which Serbian officials described as a threat to Serbia's security. /Periscope
