Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says three oil tankers from the US and the UK are “hit by rockets and are burning”, according to state media IRNA.
The United Kingdom and the United States have not confirmed these reports.
United Kingdom Marine Operations Say in Their Daily Summary, published at 17:22 GMT, that “reported numerous naval security incidents” in the area. They say two ships were hit by an unknown “shell”, which caused fires. It is not clear where these ships are from or where they are registered.
The tankers were hit in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, which is now closed. The Strait is seen as one of the most important sea trade routes in the world and a key point for oil transit.
