According to the announcement, developing situations in Iran and the Middle East were analysed during the meeting, as well as the effects for the European Union.
The Commission's action will be guided by two key priorities: supporting member states and protecting EU citizens from the negative consequences of events under way in Iran and the Middle East“, said in notification.
The Commission's focus will be on certain specific areas, such as:
Evacuation and Return to Places of Origin
The Commission is intensifying support for the evacuation efforts and return of citizens of member states, including through the EU civil protection mechanism and the Co-ordination Centre for Emergency Management, in close co-operation with EU representatives.
Transport and Marine Trade
Monitoring the dangers of transportation disruption, particularly at the Sun of Hormuz and the Red Sea, is increasing, and co-ordination with airlines, marines and national authorities is strengthening.
Energy
The commission is closely following developments in prices and supplies and will call a special energy group with member states, in co-operation with the International Energy Agency, with its first collection this week.
Internal Security
The Commission maintains a high alert and close co-operation with Europol and member states regarding possible domestic security risks.
Migration
The Commission is increasing readiness through closer monitoring of trends and increased co-operation with relevant agencies of the United Nations Organization and partner countries. /Panorama
