As taught unofficially, at the European Commission level all decision-making procedures belonging to this institution have been completed. Only holding the EU member state representatives' meeting in charge of regional issues remains.
At this meeting, which is expected to be held Monday, the removal of measures against Kosovo is expected to be approved.
The measures were set in 2023. A year later, former European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell recommended their removal, but it took over 18 months for the decision to be formalised.
Meanwhile, over 400m euros in European financial assistance have been blocked since then. By the end of 2025, half of these financial measures were removed, and now the rest of them are still being unblocked.
Under the punitive measures was also included in the suspension of bilateral meetings of European officials with representatives of the Government of Kosovo, unless regional-type meetings were organised.
Meanwhile, Kosovo is the country which Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has not yet visited. It plans to pay a visit to Kosovo this month. The ideal plan, according to European officials, would be to use this visit to communicate the news of the removal of the measures. / RTK
