Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Blerta Deliu-Codra has declared that this party has always respected the Constitutional Court's decisions, and that even in this case it will wait for the final decision regarding the decree to distribute the Parliament.
In a presentation on the “Five” TV show Dukaagjini, Deliu-Codra stressed that PDK constitutional experts have considered President Vjosa Osmani's decree for the distribution of the Assembly right.
“The PDK has continued even during the time it was in power even while it was in the opposition has been in full respect for the JCK decisions. Of course, our expectations are to wait for the final decision on issues that have already required treatment by the JCK. You know we have given the decree of Mrs. Osman. PDK experts dealing with constitutional issues have considered it right. The fact that within the Parliament all options have been exhausted to elect the country's president and that the country is going, in these created circumstances, towards extraordinary elections”, the PDK MP has said.
Days earlier, the Constitutional Court imposed temporary measures until March 31st on the decree of President Osmani for the distribution of the Parliament, banning any action by the president and Parliament until the move is in effect. Under the court ruling, the move aims to prevent irreparable damage to constitutional order and democratic functioning of institutions.
This situation has come after the March 5th session of electing the president was interrupted for lack of quorum, after being abandoned by opposition parties. A day later, President Osmani issued the decree on the distribution of the Assembly and began consultations with political parties on a date of early elections.
Deliu-Codra said the PDK has not been interested in moving the country towards the elections, adding that this party has tried to contribute to finding a political solution that would avoid such a situation.
It has blamed Vetevendosje Movement for the political situation, which, according to her, is leading the country towards extraordinary elections.
According to her, under normal circumstances a parliamentary majority that has received considerable civic support would have to ensure institutional stability rather than lead the country towards new elections.
“under normal circumstances, of a parliamentary majority that behaves in relation to the needs of citizens, in relation to the civic support received by 51 percent. Which is primarily interested in Kosovo's institutional stability. Not to settle down. The election issue would absolutely not have to be questioned. We have not preceded such a situation. Even if I can say that the PDK has been extremely constructive all the time, from Mr. Hamza's first meetings with Mr. Kurti, there have been several meetings to discuss how we can avoid elections. And if Mr. Kurti's political will to avoid elections, which have already become an easy burden on citizens”, has added Deliu-Codra.
