Kosovo suspended Strategic Dialogue with US last year, Serbia is starting now

The United States of America (SHBA) indefinitely suspended the planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo in mid-September 2025.

Meanwhile, US strategic dialogue with Serbia is starting this week.

Let us remember what the US said when they suspended this dialogue with Kosovo:

“Government actions led by incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti have raised tensions and instability, limiting the United States' ability to work productively with Kosovo on joint priorities”. Furthermore, the state-of-the-art prime minister's recent actions and statements, Kurti, have presented challenges to progress achieved over the years”, the US Embassy's announcement in Pristina said.

Last year, when the dialogue was suspended, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani was incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Now, again, Kosovo's acting prime minister is Albin Kurti, while the President's detail leader, his colleague from Vetevendosje (VV), Albulen Haxhiu. The VV is retaining absolute power, “heads and toward”.

Furthermore, MP Albin Kurti continues to hold the post of prime minister in office, contrary to the Kosovo Constitution, which does not allow MP/es to hold executive position. So do many others from the current government of Vetevendosje.

In 2025-2026, Albin Kurti has directed his government effectively without parliamentary supervision.
