The defence ministry has confirmed to Dukagjin that Kosovo is in the process of preparing for sending the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) troops to Gaza, under the International Stabilisation Force in Gaza, a mission authorised by the United Nations Organisation on the basis of Resolution 2803.
Initially sending troops was announced at the Peace Board founding meeting by US General Jasper Jeffers, who has announced that Kosovo is among the states that have officially expressed the will to contribute to this multinational mission, along with dozens of other partner countries, Dukaj reports.
The Defence Ministry for Dukagjin announced that on December 10th of last year, they accepted the invitation by the American Command of the Centre to engage in the process of establishing this stabilisation force. The first co-ordination meeting is held in Doha, Qatar, where representatives from about 40 countries have participated.
Also, the ministry says that with the approval of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the international forum has been attended by Kosovo Security Force Commander Lieutenant General Union Jashari, who confirmed Kosovo's political will.
The defence ministry has indicated that Kosovo's potential contribution will include specialised capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force, including units for demining, search-saving teams, as well as other professional capacities that connect with stabilisation and security security on the ground.
“With approval of Prime Minister Kurti, KSF Commander Lieutenant General Yashari has participated in this international forum, where we have expressed political will in the midst of the 40 participating states, Kosovo offers willingness to contribute to this Force with a combination of capacities, so not only the typical military capacity or only the capacity that has to deal with damage and rescue, but the relevant capacity of the Kosovo Security Force”, reported by the Defence Ministry for Dukagimin, broadcasts. Currently, the process has been passed from the phase of expression of political will to that of following legal and institutional procedures.
In line with the Law on Sending the KSF abroad, operational and financial aspects, including the cost of the mission depending on the number of troops and the duration of engagement, are being considered.
After the completion of these procedures, the decision will be sent for approval to Government, later to the Kosovo Assembly, and will require formal authorisation by the president of the Republic, under the constitutional framework.
“From political will to practical implementation, we are now following the procedure steps that are defined under the KSF Equipment Law, which includes the issue of financial cost in line with the number of troops. The process will then be passed to Government for decision, and later for approval in the Parliament, as well as for authorisation by Republika's president,”, the Defence Ministry says.
The defence ministry confirms that Kosovo's participation in this stabilising force constitutes a strategic decision of particular importance to the country's foreign and security policy.
This commitment is considered evidence of a stable partnership with the United States, as well as of Kosovo's growing role as a contributing state in international security and peace missions.
“Kosovo's participation in this force is a strategic decision, is evidence of a steadfast partnership with the United States of America, as well as of our role as a contributing and responsible state in international security”, the MM response said. /Periscope/
