This was confirmed before the media by Musa Damati, a lawyer of Paul Lekaj, who said this is a defence triumph and that the Constitutional Court has failed further prosecution of the case's review.
For all of you, in the quality of the MP's lawyer at the time, Mr. Pal Lekaj, confirm and declare before you and the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo that my client, sir Pal Lekaj, has been declared innocent of all charges with which he is charged in the public-known case of tear gas. So we're dealing with the well-known case of throwing tear gas canisters, for which they're indicted and loaded, and it's the case which has already been examined in Kosovo's organs for ten years. Mr. Paul Lekaj, after about five years in many sessions which have been scheduled and held, along with me as his protector, at every session we have presented, despite the charge agenda, mine and his. The Constitutional Court in Pristina has failed to proceed further with the review of this court case, and has sent us the verdict, the Act of Basic Court of Pristina, under which my client, deputy of the time, sir. Pal Lekaj, has been declared completely innocent. This is an extraordinary success of protection in the procedures of representation done over the years, and it is finally a triumph of justice and it is a clear legal victory in relation to my defence”, Damati said, reports Online Economy, broadcast Periscope.
Meanwhile Burim Halili, the speaker of the Parliament, said chief parliamentr Albulen Haxhiu has taken action against association and that she has been acquitted of the tear gas case.
“Zonja Haxhiu at the Kosovo Parliament then had taken action at the time, which had regularly hampered the process of polling for association. Mrs. Haxhiu had taken a clear stand against Association. Then, in the case of the development of many events at the time in parliament, they were banned along with other deputies, where certain elements, who were suspicious, had been banned from them. And a trial has been held and never has it been proven that the suspicious elements involved criminal acts for which they were banned. And here in 2021 we had had a court case in which the same had been declared - innocent and in legal terms - complaint. And the case had gone into retrial, even after the retrial the prosecution had failed to prove their guilt by its actions. Then the case was prolonged, where he had gone and arrived after several years, and we have the prescription, where in the concrete case we have a decision where all points of the act Albulen Haxhiu and others” are released, Halili said. /Periscope/
