CEC for new elections: We will act in line with constitutional and legal mandate

Not even a month has passed since the day the Central Election Commission certified the results of early elections for Kosovo's December 28th 2025 Assembly. However, other early choices may occur soon. The CEC, which completed 2025 with the organisation of two parliamentary election processes on February 9th and [...]
The CEC, which concluded 2025 with the organisation of two parliamentary election processes of February 9th and December 28th, as well as two local level election processes on October 12th and the second round of mayoral elections on November 9th, will again have to organise new elections.
This institution's spokesman, Valmir Elez, has told Online Economy that they do not comment on political developments and that the CEC's stance remains the same, as in other cases, broadcasts Periscope.
According to him, organising a new election process within a short time after the last elections poses a challenge for the CEC and its staff, however, this institution will act in line with the constitutional and legal mandate.
The organisation of both a new and early election process for the Kosovo Assembly, only in a short time after the election closure -- also premature for the Kosovo Assembly -- poses a challenge to the Central Election Commission and its staff. Even so, The CEC, as the permanent institution that has the main task of organising the elections, will act in line with the constitutional and legal mandate, and will take all necessary actions to hold new elections, whenever this will be required”, Elesi said.
Elez said if there will be a new election process The CEC will discuss budget issues.
The Central Election Commission has not discussed these issues, but certainly if there is a new electoral process then the CEC will first discuss budget issues and then make the necessary planning, which, as usual, is sent to the Kosovo government for approval”, he said.
He added that in the event of early elections, the law on general elections envisions the possibility for the CEC to cut the deadlines for their organisation.
“If so we have an early election process, that is, it would be organised in short terms of time, the law on general elections envisions the possibility that the Central Election Commission will do short-terms of various activities and adapt them to circumstances, that is, the days it has available to organise this”, he said.
On March 6th, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani issued the decree to disperse the 10th legislature, as until March 5th she failed to elect Kosovo's new president.
Osmani made that decision by relying on Article 86 of the Kosovo Constitution, where it says the “selection of Kosovo Republic President must be made no later than 30 days before the end of the mandate of the current president”.
Currently, the issue of the decree issued by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has been sent to the Constitutional Court for review, from which the deployment of the suspended measures has been required until final review.
