Oman's Marine Security Centre has issued a statement on the incident.
She said the target of the attack was an oil tank and that her crew was evacuated after a fire broke out.
“MKD VYOM, carrying the flag of the Marshall Islands, was attacked by a pilotless 52 nautical miles off the coast of the Muscat Governor. Cisterna carried approximately 59,463 tonnes of loads”, she said.
He added that the attack resulted in a fire and explosion in the main engine room, killing a crew member, an Indian citizen.
The “in co-ordination with the Marine Security Centre, the 21-man crew of the citrena, including 16 Indians, 4 bangladeses and 1 Ukrainians were evacuated on a commercial ship that sailed under the panmese flag”, the statement said.
Development came after the US and Israel launched a major attack on Iran on Saturday, killing several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ailet Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran retaliated with fears and rockets targeting Israel, as well as Gulf places that housed American assets.
