“We look forward to gathering top officials including Vice President Vance, Interior Secretary Burgum, Energy Secretary Wright, the two-party leaders in Congress and governors to discuss the role of American oil and natural gas in supporting reliable energy supply amid global instability”, spokeswoman Andrea Woods said.
The meeting also comes at a time when gas prices have continued to rise due to the war with Iran, and while the Trump administration has tried to convince other countries to help secure Hormuz Strait. President Donald Trump last night threatened to blow up Iran's largest gas field, following Israeli attacks on this area and Iran's revenge attacks on Qatar.
Vance said the administration knows that the highest gas prices are a problem, but called it a temporary obstacle, which will be resolved within the next few weeks.
Vance also signalled that further changes in politics would be adopted to lower prices. During the past week, gasoline prices have risen from the national average of $3.59 to $3.88.
