With that he broke the record he set last year, when he spoke for an hour and 39 minutes in what technically wasn't a speech on the Status of the Nation. Prior to that, former President Bill Clinton held the record for his speech on the State of the Nation in 2000, which lasted an hour and 28 minutes.
The shortest speech in the last 60 years was former president Richard Nixon for the Nation's Status in 1972, which lasted only 28 minutes.
The duration of the talk included long pauses for applause, interruptions, guest greetings, and cheers for the American ice hockey representative for men, winner of Olympic gold, Telegrafi reports, broadcast Periscope.
