Thaci's lawyers seek his release from war crimes charges

Thaci and three other former KLA commanders are accused of persecution, murder, torture and forced disappearance of people during and shortly after the 1998-99 uprising that eventually brought the independence of the Albanian majority region from Serbia.

Lawyer Luka Misetic told judges at the Kosovo Special Court for War Crimes in The Hague that prosecutors' claims that Thaci and the three commanders Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi held a violent campaign to take political control over all of Kosovo were an unfounded attempt to rewrite the country's history.
