(16 minutes ago)Tensions between the Huth rebels and Saudi Arabia have entered a new phase, as Iran-backed group has stepped up missile attacks on Saudi targets, boosting fears of an escalation of conflict in the region.
By CNNLast week, Huth threatened to launch a campaign of attacks against Saudi ships on the Red Sea if the blockade imposed on Yemen is not removed, Periscope broadcasts.
Later, they claimed to hit two Saudi tankers, while Saudi Arabia confirmed that at least one was hit and responded to air attacks on the port of Hodeidah, controlled by Huth.
On Saturday morning, rebels launched ballistic missiles towards the two Saudi provinces, including Jizan, a city of strategic importance for oil exports and the energy infrastructure of Saudi Arabia.
The Huth rebels, who control the capital Sanaa and most of the Red Sea coast since 2014, have survived despite the Saudi offensive launched in 2015.
With Iran's support and Allied groups, they have continued attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as hit Israel with ballistic missiles in support of Hamas since 2023.
