According to Italian authorities, a group of heavily armed men have attacked an armoured van carrying values accompanied by another safety vehicle.

The robbers, dressed in white and black suits and wearing masks on their faces, were armed with automatic Kalashnikov-type weapons and shot with firearms during the action.

To block the armoured vehicle, the authors of the event have indirectly put a truck on the road, which they have then set on fire, completely blocking the railing toward Lecces. Then they surrounded the van by other means and used explosives to break through the back door of the blind, causing a thick cloud of smoke.

Carabinieri and police forces arrived at the scene immediately, while the segment of the road where the robbery took place was temporarily closed to traffic.

The event has been seen by dozens of drivers on the opposite side of the road, which because of their work functioned only in one lane.

After the robbery, the authors have fled to Squinzano's territory in the province of Lecce.

Authorities have launched investigations into identifying and apprehending them, while there is still no official record of the value of the robbed sum or injured persons.
