Six protesters arrested after clashes in Milan's host city of LO

Six people have been arrested after police clashed with protesters in Milan, one of the host countries of the Winter Olympic Games, during the first day of the race.

Thousands of people took to the streets of the city in northern Italy on Saturday to protest the Games and a series of issues, including the cost of living, the BBC writes.

Some threw fireworks and stones at the police, who responded with cannons.

This comes after the government tightened the protests laws following a demonstration last weekend in Turin that left more than 100 officers injured, according to government figures.
