U.S. forces have launched Tomahawk missiles from the United States Navy warships to Iran.
Two American officials confirmed that the military operation was undertaken by both air and sea, writes NBC News.
The attack co-ordinated by Israel and the US on Saturday morning came following unsuccessful negotiations in Geneva for the Iranian nuclear programme. That American President Donald Trump could use force had been warned for weeks.
Following attacks by Israeli and American forces, Iranian media reported explosions in several areas of the country, including the Persian Gulf, where US bases are being attacked.
Besides Tehran, explosions have been heard in Tabriz, Isfahan, Coom, and Kermanshah. According to Iranian sources, quoted by Reuters, Israel has targeted several ministry buildings in Tehran.
American and Israeli sources said the targets have been regime structures and military installations, including ballistic missile bases. According to their statements, a large number of fighter aircraft and rocket “Tomahawk”, known as long-range American missiles, are participating in the operation.
On social networks such as X, users are publishing alleged images of the “Tomahawk” missile attacks.
One of the posts shows a driver on a highway somewhere in Iran filming the flight of an American missile and the moment of impact. The post, along with the images, claims the missiles are American and are targeting Iranian missile depots, fuel and other operational targets.
