Trump's comments come as his special envoy Steve Whitoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Western Jerusalem for talks on Iran, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
The meeting was held shortly after Witkoff arrived in Israel for talks with senior officials there on the Iranian issue and implementation of the second phase of President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Massoud Pnezkian said he had asked the country's “foreign minister to pursue fair and equal negotiations”.
“I have instructed my Foreign Affairs Minister, provided there is an appropriate environment ʹ an environment free of unreasonable threats and expectations ] to pursue fair and equal negotiations, guided by the principles of dignity, discretion and adaptability”, he said.
These negotiations will be held within the framework of our national interests”, Peseskian added.
Also Tuesday, Iran said preparations are under way to hold talks with the US in the coming days, with consultations continuing to finalise the country.
Speaking of Iran's state news agency, The IRNA, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, said the talks are being planned based on the direction of POSkian President.
The planning to hold talks in the coming days is being made, and consultations are under way to determine the location of the talks, which will be announced as soon as” is finalised, Baghaei said.
He expressed gratitude for friendly countries that have worked with “concern and goodwill” to help pave the way for a diplomatic process.
