BBC: What is known so far for the Berlin Pride bomb attack

Police have launched an intensive search for the suspect in the German capital.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has condemned the incident as a hated “attack”.

Here's what we know so far.

What happened to the Berlin attack of Crenaria?

The attack occurred around 10:00 local time (20:00 GMT). A report was made to police in Berlin that a white vehicle had crashed into crowds at a Krenaria activity in the capital.

Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered in the Tiergarten Park near Brandenburg's ikinic Gate, known as Christopher Street Day.

Some people were also stabbed in the incident, with a blade officials believe may have been a chopper.

Soon afterward, Krenaria's activity was canceled.

One performance was unexpectedly interrupted, with organisers climbing the stage and advising the crowd to start walking toward the exits.

While the message was being given to the crowd, the word <x0evation” was designed on a large screen on the scene.

An unverified video posted on social media showed large crowds leaving the scene while emergency vehicles rushed to the site.

About 0100 local time, police confirmed that one woman was killed and many others had suffered injuries.

Shortly thereafter, police confirmed that they had found the vehicle believed to have been used in the attack, saying it had crashed into a tree.

At around 3:30, police said on X they had identified a suspect with Islamic ties. No arrests were made, nor was any motive suggested.

The search area expanded throughout the city and included thousands of police officers, including officers from surrounding German states.

On Sunday, police officers stood guard outside an apartment block in the Berlin district of Tiergarten, which is said to be the suspect's home.

Who's the suspect in the Berlin Priest attack?

The suspect has been identified by police as 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, a German national of Lebanese descent.

He was known for the police and committed a number of crimes, officials said. He was sentenced to a year and 10 months in prison, but the sentence was changed to parole.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the suspect was radicalised.

German media reports he is a supporter of the Islamic State group (ISIS) and has tried in the past without success to join the organisation.

Police sources are quoted in German media as saying he travelled to Lebanon in 2025 and was arrested after his return to Berlin. Reports say he had been in custody until May 2026 and was ordered to participate in a redeployment programme.

He's believed to be connected to the car abandoned in the park.

While his image has been published and a search is under way, police have also said one or more people may have fled the used vehicle, which means there may be other suspects.

The police statement added that some persons have reportedly been wounded with sharp weapons in the attack.

Police have called on the public to provide information, but has been warned not to interfere with the suspect, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

At the time of the attack, Ballout, described as weak and about six feet [180 m] long, is believed to have worn a black shirt in a white hood and pants.

Where Did the Attack Happen?

The attack took place at the popular Tiergarten park near Brandenberg Gate.

A large number of people and chariots participated in the Christopher Street Day event, which passed through the city before passing through the Tiergarten Park beyond the Victory Column monument and to the Brandenberg Gate.

Berlin police have said that people were hit in Ahornsteig, which is a long trail extending through the park, mainly in a forested area.

European leaders have quickly condemned the attack.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her condolences to the victims, saying that the Crenaria event represents “lirin, dignity and equality -- EU core values” -- the Express broadcasts.

“Every person should be able to live, love and defend their rights without fear”, she wrote on social networks.

Rob Jetten, prime minister of the Netherlands, said the Dutch stand side by side with our German neighbours”, while Italy's prime minister, Georgia Melon, expressed “solidarity and genuine regret”.

United Kingdom Defence Secretary Wes Streeting called the incident “an absolutely terrible catastrophe”, adding that his thoughts and prayers are with the German people.
