Is Jeffrey Epstein still alive? BBC investigates new rumors

“Prova” quoted is a US Justice Department document that mentions August 9th 2019, a day before Epstein was found dead in his prison cell.

BBC Verifu checked what it was about and concluded that it was a misconception of an internal draft of the document, instead of any evidence that Epstein's death was forged or imagined, Klankosova broadcasts. tv 

The reason for the new speculation was a draft statement by the US Department of Justice, included in the latter part of the declassified documents about Epstein. The document says Epstein was “found unconscious in his” cell in a New York prison, and the date is Friday, August 9, 2019.

On social networks, this was interpreted as supposed proof that American authorities knew the death of Epstein in advance or that he was not in the cell at that time.

What do official findings say?

However, according to BBC Verifi, all relevant official documents confirm that Jeffrey Epstein was found dead Saturday, August 10th, 2019. These include a declassified FBI report on his death in custody, an autopsy report, internal prison documents, as well as official photos from the site of the event, broadcast Klankosova. tv 

None of these documents lists August 9th as the day Epstein died or his body was found.

Ministry of Justice: This is an error in the draft

The US Department of Justice confirmed to BBC Verifiation that the contested date was the result of an error in an internal draft of the document that was never meant for publication. According to their explanation, drafts of the official statement began to circulate in their internal emails at the US Prosecutor's Office for the South District of New York on August 10th, 2019, after Epstein's death.

“While the initial versions of the declaration contained an earlier date, it was an unfortunate clerical error later corrected before the official statement” was issued, the Justice Ministry for BBC Verification said.

They added that claims that the declaration was prepared before Epstein's death are false.

How did error become public?

The document in question was an internal draft that remained in the archive of electronic communications and was included only later in published court documents. This alone enabled the incorrect date to become visible to the public and to serve as a trigger for new conspiracy theories.

BBC Verifin points out that there is no evidence suggesting that Epstein's death was forged or that he survived, as claimed in viral posts.

BBC Verifu's conclusion is clear: The wrong date in the document's internal draft is the result of a clerical error, not proof of a cover or counterfeiting of Epstein's death.

All relevant and official findings confirm that Jeffrey Epstein died on August 10th 2019 in a New York prison, as was officially announced at the time.
