As a result, the municipalities have hired relevant commissions to identify and assess damage on the ground in order to create an exact mirror of the situation and pave the way for official requests for assistance and compensation from central institutions.

Many municipalities already say they are in the evaluation phase.

The evaluation process is under way in various phases, while final reports are expected to be sent to the Communist countries and the Government of Kosovo for further treatment.

Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Rahovec municipality Irfan Berisha has presented official records of the damages caused by the flooding of dates 5, 6 and 7 January 2026, suggesting that the evaluation process is complete and that there is already a clear mirror of damage in different sectors.

According to Berisha, a total of 425 compensation requirements have been submitted in Komuna, of which 394 have been approved by the commission, while 31 requests have been rejected.

“Dations from floods of 5, 6 and 7 January 2026 in the Rahovec municipality. There are 425 requests approved by the commission, 394 requests, while rejected requests are 31”, Berisha told Front Online.

He made it known that the damage to family economies constitutes most of the requirements.

“on the list of domestic economy damage are 259 requests, worth damage 292,457.08 euros”, Berisha stressed.

According to him, significant damage has also been recorded in the agriculture and business sector.

“In agriculture are 120 requests, worth the damage 165,178.64 euros, while in businesses there are 7 demands, worth 186,179.79 euros”, he said.

Berisha added that damage to private infrastructure has been recorded.
“In private infrastructure are 8 requirements, worth damage 27,974.00 euros”, he said.

According to official data, the total number of applications approved for private damage is 394, worth a total of 671,749.51 euros. Meanwhile, damage to public infrastructure amounts to 129,305 euros, distributed on 22 recorded cases.

“All private damage and public infrastructure amount to 801,054.51 euros”, Berisha concluded.

Dragas Mayor Behgjet Xhedeeni has indicated that the municipal commission has launched an assessment on the ground of damage caused by the floods, while stressing that preliminary damages are estimated at about half a million euros.

According to Xhedin, dozens of apps, accompanied by testimony and photographs by affected citizens, have been accepted so far.

“Today the commission is out on the ground. In all, there were 35 apps with evidence and photo”, he said.

He said the biggest damages have been recorded in infrastructure, while the exact amount is not yet calculated.

The largest damage share is in infrastructure. The damage is not known correctly, but approximately half a million euros”, Xhedin said.

The Dragas mayor also raised concerns about failing to process damage from previous floods, stressing that citizens have not yet received the promised support.

The first two and a half years have yet to be paid”, he stressed.

Drenas Mayor Ramiz Ladrovci has indicated that municipal institutions are in the final phase of the damage assessment caused by recent floods, while warning that the official report will be submitted to the Municipal Assembly and then to the Kosovo government for further processing.

Ladrovci said the investigation was made through municipal commissions and that the total amount of damages would be part of the final report.

“We with the municipal commissions have made the investigation of damage and are preparing the final report where the value of damages we will send to the Assembly for approval and forward to the government Commission that will process it in Government”, he said.

According to him, the evidence of damages is aimed at ensuring compensation for categories affected by floods, including family economies, businesses, agriculture and public infrastructure.

“The evidence of damages is intended to compensate for the damages of family economies, businesses, agricultural and infrastructure economies. This evidence is our request for help to citizens, companies and roads and other public objects”, Ladrovci stressed.

Speaking of previous experiences with compensation from the government, the chairman of Drenas explained that aid has been partial and not continuous over the years.

“Dations of 2016 and 2021 were paid partially, while there was no compensation for those in 2023. We expect this practice of non-compliance not to become tradition”, he said.

Malisheva Mayor Ekrem Kastrati has indicated that the process of weighing damages caused by recent flooding has not yet been completed, as the responsible commission has not completed its work on the ground.

According to Kastrati, municipal institutions are awaiting the official and final report by the evaluation commission, which is expected to provide an exact mirror of the damages caused.

We haven't finished the damage assessment yet. The commission has not yet completed the adequate and final assessment”, Kastrati said.

He stressed that only after the completion of this process will the real extent of damage and institutional steps to be taken to address them, including the procedures for central-level assistance research.

The chairman of the Vushtrri municipality, Ferit Idrizi, has indicated that the process of weighing the damage caused by the recent floods is towards completion, following co-operation between municipal institutions and the Commission for the assessment of damages.

Idrizi said meetings have been held with the Commission for the assessment of damages and the Office of Prime Minister (ZKM), where agreement has been reached on the full investigation of all damage to municipal territory.

We've had a meeting with the Commission for the Calcation of Hurts with ZKM. It was the commission to us and we agreed to do the assessment of all damage in our municipality, so now the commission to us is in the final phase of the damage assessment”, Idriz said.
