A strong 4.8 magnitude quake on the Richter scale rocked the southern island of Crete on Sunday morning.
Greek authorities have not reported material or injured damage.
The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the earthquake was recorded at 3:3 a.m. about 56 km west of Palaiochora, and its epidera was at a depth of 295 km.
Crete is one of Greece's most earthquake-minded areas, which on the other hand is one of the most seismically active areas in the world. In 1999, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Athens, taking 143 lives. /Periscopi/
