Defense opposes SPS: No evidence that Thaci drafted KLA communiques

According to defence, the SPS claims Thaci has been running the Political Directorate since June 1998, but has presented no evidence he has exercised before this period.

“The ZPS claims Thaci headed the Political Directorate in June 1998. There is no evidence to have exercised the function of the director of the Political Directorate before this period. Controled KLA policies at the time and headed by Thaci. Nuhi Bytyci, said to have been director of the Political Directorate in 1998. The next claim the prosecution didn't even ask the witness questions. The witness himself during the responses said Thaci was not the director of the Political Directorate until November 1998. ZPS did not contest his testimony where he had the opportunity to ask additional questions”, attorney Luka Misetic said.

On the other hand, Thaci's lawyer said the prosecution has not produced evidence that he was a leading figure in the Kosovo People's Movement, naming it an unsubstantiated claim.

“ZPS dared not ask Bislim Office questions because he was afraid of the answers he would receive, that is not fair to the witness and the accused. ZPS does not provide evidence that Thaci was a leading figure in the LKP, and that is simply groundless. ZPS claims Thaci has overseen the distribution of political information to ensure that they favour the KLA's general staff”, Mishtic stressed, Klonkosova reports, broadcast Periscope.

Also, it was stressed that there is no evidence that Thaci has drafted the KLA's political communiques. According to defence, the SPS has cited only two evidence to support that claim.

There is no information that Thaci has been monitoring the distribution of KLA information. That there has been involvement in the preparation of political statements, no witness has testified to it regarding the fact that Thaci has drafted political communiqués. In fact, the SPS manages to quote only two evidence to support their claim that Thaci has played a role in preparing them”, he said.

They also cited statements by Rexhep Selimi, who, according to the defence, has said there was no personal knowledge of who drafted the KLA communiqués, but has only speculated.

In the conclusion, the defence argued that even in the final file, Rexhep Selimi has admitted that there was no knowledge of who compiled the communiquettes, naming it as evidence that undermines the prosecution's claims against Thaci, Klakosova reported.tv.

“The SPS provides no evidence that Thaci had a role in drafting political statements. Even if the ZPS manage to show a link between Thaci and the communiques, it fails to prove that they have been a considerable contribution to crimes. The ZPS claims Thaci viewed the opposition as a threat and warned them they would be punished. It is unclear for us as this part supports the claim Thaci has threatened the oponents and there is no argument related to this point”.

“Rexep Selimi told Z The SP has no personal knowledge of who drafted the KLA communiquettes and has simply speculated, Thaci has had no opportunity to contest Selimi's” testimony, lawyer Misetic stressed.
