Counseling to appoint Mandela, chief of staff of Keir Starmer resigns

Morgan McSweney, chief of staff of Keir Starmer, has left his role as prime minister's closest assistant, amid indignation over his role in appointing Peter Mandela as US ambassador.

His position had become increasingly unstable as pressure on Starmer increased because of the scandal, which followed the publication of e-mails highlighting the scale of Mandelson's relationship with convicted sexual abuser of minors Jeffrey Epstain.

McSweney resigned by saying he took full responsibility “that he had advised Starmer to appoint Mandelson, a decision that had undermined confidence in Labus, in the country and in politics itself, and that the departure was “the path of honour” for him.

However, his departure will be a serious blow to the prime minister, who has lost a series of close councilors in recent months and relied on his political judgment, although “Numri 10” was often targeted by criticism as a result.
