British Ambassador to Belgrade: We want Kosovo to form association, but Serbia has obligations to meet

He in an interview for the Serbian newspaper '%s', stressed that Kosovo has not yet implemented the 2013 Brussels Agreement, specifically citing the non-formation of the majority Serb municipalities, which, according to him, should have been created for years.

Ferguson said the United Kingdom has repeatedly asked Kosovo to fulfil this obligation.

I think responsibility is shared. So it falls on leaders in both Serbia and Kosovo. In Kosovo, for example, we have said many times that the 2013 Brussels Agreement has not yet been fulfilled. The association of Serb majority municipalities has yet to be created, and we think that should have happened many years ago. We want this to happen”, Ferguson said.

However, the British ambassador stressed that Serbia too has unfulfilled obligations under the agreements reached in the dialogue, including the commitment not to prevent Kosovo from obstructing integration processes and membership in international organisations.

There are also obligations Serbia must fulfil. There are related issues, for example, with the failure to prevent Kosovo's membership in international organisations. We have seen continued efforts by Serbia to prevent membership in various organisations”, he said.

According to Ferguson, the 2023 Ohrid Agreement, which is “agreed on and legally binding”, represents a clear guide towards normalising relations, but its implementation requires political will both from Belgrade and Pristina.

“As I said, the road is clear and is defined in various agreements whether the Brussels Agreement or the Ohrid Agreement. I think we should understand everything together. All these are commitments made”, the British ambassador stressed.

It concluded that regional stability cannot be achieved without meeting obligations on both sides and without a serious commitment to dialogue.
