US President Donald Trump aims to oust Cuba's leadership and is actively searching inside government people in Havana who are willing to make a deal with Washington to restore the communist regime”, according to a report in the U.S. The Wall Street Journal.
The American newspaper, citing unidentified American officials, reported that the Trump administration does not have a “concrete” plan for Cuba, but that the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the US Army “left behind as a plan and a warning to Cuba”.
An American official told the paper that meetings have been held with Cuban exiles and civil groups in Miami and Washington, in an effort to identify a government official in Cuba who may have “mercy to reach a” agreement.
Trump has also threatened Cuba directly, writing on his platform True Social earlier this month: “I strongly suggest that they make a deal, P THROUGHOUT WINS.”
Ricardo Zubiga, former official in the administration of US President Barack Obama, who helped negotiate a short-term reduction of tensions between Havana and Washington from 2014 to 2017, said Cuba's leadership would be a much more difficult nut to deal with -- <x0th) broken <ex1> than Venezuela's, Television, reports. The collapse of Cuban leadership has been a desire of many American politicians since the 1959 revolution that brought the country's famous revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, to power.
The United States tried and failed to overthrow Cuban leadership during the Gulf of Pigs invasion in 1962.
The CIA also made many attempts to kill Castro in his lifetime, while the United States-backed Bolivian forces executed the Cuban Revolutionist born in Argentina, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, 1967.
Cuba is only 150km from South Florida, and hundreds of thousands of Cubans have left the island for the US, citing economic problems and political depression. /Periscope/
