Trump threatens Canada with a 100% fee if it deals with China

Tensions between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have escalated in recent days after Carney delivered a speech in Davos, Switzerland, putting pressure on the world's major powers.

Trump referred to the prime minister as the “governor Carney” and said that if “thinks he's going to make Canada a Port Surrender for China to send goods and products to the United States, he's seriously wrong”.

Trump did not give a timeline or more information about the threatened fee.

Last year, when he threatened for the first time with new tariffs against the northern US neighbour, Trump began calling Canada its “51st state of” with Carney as its “guvernator”, and suggested he could try to buy the country entirely, reports TelegraphTransmeron Periscope.

While relations between countries have improved in recent months, Trump's push to take control of Greenland and his comments about NATO have brought it into conflict with Canadian and European leaders.
