At a meeting with his cabinet, Trump has told them he has asked Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin not to attack Kiev and different cities for a week and that he has agreed.
Under constant bombings over the past few weeks, Ukraine's energy system has collapsed, and millions of people have lost electricity in times when temperatures are below zero.
“They have never experienced this cold”, Trump said, adding that “was very well” for Putin that stopped the attacks.
Trump's news has not yet confirmed Russia's ongoing attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Wednesday that Moscow is planning another series of shelling despite plans for talks with the US.
Putin has already made deals with Trump in private, but later changed his ways by violating all the agreements.
